Regular Lessons


Lead Rein

The lead rein lessons are for children who have never ridden before of very young age (under 7). The children learn the basic rules of riding with help of a leader for each child and pony. These are no longer avaiable.

Beginner

The beginner lessons are for those who have never ridden before, with the aim to be able to walk and off the lead rein, demonstrating co-ordination. Pupils will learn to steer at least one particular horse/pony around the school and to take their horse/pony out of the stable and over to the the school. These are no longer avaiable.

Very Novice

The aim of the Very Novice lessons is to be able to walk, trot and steer any school horse/pony around the school without assistance. Pupils will learn to ride lead file, which is riding as the first horse in the group walk. Furthermore, pupils learn to lead and hold their horse/pony as well as getting them ready to mount without assistance. This is now our entry level.

Novice

The Novice lessons are aiming to improve co-ordination and control of any horse/pony in walk and trot. Pupils will start learning to canter, to take their horse/pony out of the stable and to untack the horse/pony after the lesson.

Medium

The Medium lessons are aiming to improve knowledge of horse care and to improve co-ordination and control in trot and canter. At this level, riders will be expected to untack and be able to rug up their pony for the night, including returning the tack for overnight storage.

Intermediate

The intermediate lessons are aiming to improve overall knowledge of horse care and riding ability and to begin understanding the further technicalities of riding, including jumping. At this level, riders will be expected to tack up, untack and be able to rug up their pony for the night.

Experienced

The aim at this level is to have a thorough knowledge of caring for a horse and riding at a higher standard. At this level riders will be expected to be confident to perform lateral work and jumping (as and when appropriate).

Competition Training

This aimed at competition rides with or without their own horse wishing to improve their placing in a range of disciplines.

Side Saddle

Specialist training sessions for all levels of side saddle rides whether you just want to have a try or compete at the National Show.

BHS Career Pathway

This is aimed at more serious particiants of which many will progress towards becoming BHS coaches, grooms and riders.
