I’m a beginner what lesson should I book?

We recommend either a group lesson with a few other beginners or alternatively an individual lesson where an instructor can give you personal attention for the whole session and can advise which group lesson would be suitable.

Do you also offer hacks?

No. Acrecliffe Equestrian Centre does not offer hacks.

How old do my children need to be before they can ride?

We recommend that children are at least four years old before they start to ride when the lead rein lessons are a suitable place to start.

Are there any other restrictions?

We have a general weight limit of 14.5 stones, however if you exceed this please ring and ask if we can accomodate you.

How do I book a horse riding lesson?

You can book by phone by calling us on 01943 873912 or visit our office at the centre. All riding lessons need to be booked. Once booked the space is yours.

If it's your first lesson with us you will also need to fill in a Rider Registration Form and when you book please could you also provide the following information:
  • Your Height
  • Your Weight
  • Your riding experience

What horse riding equipment do I need?

To begin with you don't need to buy any eqipment. Riding hats can be hired from us for a notional fee.

If you find riding is for you and you want to buy your own equipment your instructor can reccomend what to buy and where to go, after all they use this equipment all the time.

What do I need to wear?

To start with you can wear comfortable trousers, leggings, tracksuit bottoms or jodhpurs. Avoid wearing jeans they can rub in all the wrong places!

On your feet you can wear wellingtons or boots with a small heel. Trainers and walking boots are not suitable.

What is if no one answers the phone?

Do I need to come every week?

We recommend pupils to come on regular basis, but you can book lessons suitable to your agenda.

Will I always be riding the same horse/pony?

We cannot guarantee that you will ride the same horse/pony every lesson. The choice of the horses and ponies is in responsibility of our well experienced instructors, who try to please everyone, but wishes can of course be named.

Generally, a pupil rides one horse/pony for a period of time and may switch to another to gain more experience.

What do we do in the lessons?

This depends on the type of lesson and your experience, details can be found on the Riding Lessons page.
These are carried out in a safe and structured environment by experienced instructors.

What payment types do you accept?

We accept debit card, cheques and of course cash.
No cheques under £10.00 can be accepted.

Can I bring my own horse for a lesson?

Yes, of course! But please let us know beforehand.

Do parents need to stay the whole lesson?

No. Parents do not necessarily need to stay for the lesson, but we have a nice viewing gallery and refreshments are available on site.

What happens if it’s raining on the day of my lesson?

Even in the case of bad weather your lesson will be held. We have a great indoor school, but be cannot guarantee that your lesson will be in there, so please bring a raincoat. If you are still not sure, please call us on 01943 873912.

Do you offer Gift Vouchers?

Yes, we do offer gift vouchers for a value or lesson which can be used at the recipients convenience. Please contact us for more details.

Can I reach you by public transport?

Yes. There is are regular bus services which pass us, and the nearest train station is Menston which is within walking distance and has a bus service which stops at the end of the drive.

What if I need to cancel my riding lesson?

Any cancellations must be notified to us a full 24 hours in advance by phone or email. Any cancellation less than 24 hours in advance will be subject to a cancellation charge of £3.00. If you need to change your time for the same day or even the same weekend we will always endeavour to help, but please remember that the riding centre will charge for late cancellation or no shows.
